What To Watch For In Patriots’ Week 14 Matchup Against Dolphins - Patriots Wire

The New England Patriots took their rightful seat at the Super Bowl contenders’ table after a signature win over the Minnesota Vikings in Week 13. Now looms the perennial trap game in South Beach against the mercurial Miami Dolphins.

A win for the Patriots would put them one more road game away from a back-to-back final home stretch against the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets. Their slim shot at home-field advantage throughout the playoffs is still heavily dependent on the Kansas City Chiefs losing. However, the other side of that equation is the Patriots winning out.

A loss at any point, particularly on Sunday against the Dolphins, would drastically increase the likelihood of the road to Super Bowl LIII going through Arrowhead Stadium. The first step in avoiding that nightmare is for the Patriots to overcome quarterback Tom Brady’s house of horrors at Hard Rock Stadium.

Here are some things to watch for this week.

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

The temperature around kickoff is expected to be near 80 degrees with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. It’s a stark contrast from the 35-degree weather in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

There is no secret Brady and company have struggled in past years playing at Miami. While they typically have the Dolphins’ number at home, they are 1-4 in their last five games when making the trip to Hard Rock Stadium. Those expecting a cakewalk challenge from another lowly AFC East foe must not be paying attention.

The suffocating humidity this late in the year has really done a number on past Patriot teams. They often come out flat and lethargic in what is typically presumed to be a give-me game. The Dolphins aren’t the most talented team in the NFL, but they are certainly a prideful one, especially when they’re playing the Patriots.

This game could be tougher than some think considering not only the venue, but the Dolphins are also a 6-6 team with an outside shot of making the playoffs.
